The Balearic boat market grows by almost 14% between January and August
From January to the end of August 2021, 989 recreational vessels have been registered in the Balearic Islands, an increase of 13.68% compared to the same period in 2020, when the number of registrations was 870.
This information comes from the "Recreational Boat Market Report January-August 2021", published by the National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN) and based on the data provided by the Directorate General of Merchant Marine. The study confirms that 5,774 recreational boats have been registered so far this year in Spain, compared to the 5,232 registered between January and August 2019, and the 4,463 reached last year at the height of the pandemic.
According to the report, the Balearic Islands at this point in the year accounts for 17.13% of the national boat market, compared to 19.49% a year ago. The Balearic archipelago is the province with most registrations, followed by Barcelona, with 633, and Alicante, with 447.
In the opinion of Carlos Sanlorenzo, general secretary of ANEN, "the boat market is experiencing a positive season driven by domestic demand for nautical activities, which this summer has grown significantly compared to 2019, before the pandemic. In the sector we are doing our best so that the new sailors who have chosen sailing to enjoy their free time safely, maintain the illusion and continue sailing. We trust that we can build a solid relationship with them by showcasing the sailing experience as one of the best outdoor experiences available", he adds.
