The pleasure craft registrations in the Balearics shoot up between January and April
Between January and April 2021, 307 pleasure craft have been registered in the Balearics, which signifies an increase by 63,3%, according to the data published by the National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN). Thus, the nautical market on the island evolves in line with the national equivalent which has registered a surge of 81% during the first third of the year, reaching 1.815 vessel registrations in total.
Balearics is by far the province with most registrations as yet this year, followed by Barcelona at a considerable distance with 180 registrations and increase by 91,5%; Alicante, with 153 registrations and a spike of 206%; Malaga, with 119 and an increase by 65,3%, and Madrid with 110 and an increase by 74,6%. All the other provinces have below 100 vessel registrations.
The islands accumulate 16,9% of all the registrations in Spain, thus keeping the leading position in the Spanish pleasure craft market. The second placed province, Barcelona, reaches 9,9% of the registered vessels, while Alicante comes not so far behind with 8,4%.
At the national level this is the best four-month period when it comes to pleasure craft registrations since the start of the pandemic, which caused a fall by 37%. Now the nautical market exceeds the pre-Covid numbers and gives hope of a recovery, while the sector prepares for a “summer onboard”.
